Loughborough College student Kaymi Angle will take to the pool to help Great Britain’s under 17 Water Polo team in the European Championships this week.

Kaymi, 17, is currently studying a BTEC Extended Diploma in Sports & Exercise Sciences at the college and is one of 15 players selected to compete at the LEN Women's European Junior Water Polo Championships in Croatia between 21-29 August.

Kaymi said: “After around four years of trials, I'm so excited to be selected and given the opportunity to compete in the European Champs for my country, with such a good team. I've put in so much time and effort for this and can't wait to see what it means for my water polo career.”

Danny Lee, the College’s sports Curriculum Manager, said: “We’re delighted for Kaymi because she works so hard and gives so much to the sport. Her selection for the European Championship squad is very well deserved. We wish her the very best of luck.

“It is fantastic for the whole College community when our students, past and present, go on to compete on the global stage like this. It demonstrates the efficacy of our flexible and insight-based approach to developing talented young athletes.”

The team has been drawn in Group A meaning they will compete against Spain, Serbia, Israel and the Czech Republic.

This year's competition will take place from 21-29 August, with the team travelling to Croatia on 18 August for a brief pre-competition training camp.
