College stars light up Commonwealth Games with huge medal haul

Loughborough College students past and present brought home 22 medals, including four golds, during the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.

More than 50 alumni competed at the Games, securing four gold, nine silver and nine bronze medals during the incredible festival of sport held between 28th July and 8th August 2022.

The talented athletes were part of the 120-strong roster of Loughborough Sport learners which was made up of students who played sport at the College or Loughborough University.

Overall, Loughborough-linked athletes won a record-breaking 47 medals – 14 gold, 17 silver, and 16 bronze. If Loughborough Sport was a country, it would have finished sixth in the overall medals table.

“It is always humbling to know that we have played a part in helping them develop – whether that’s physical prowess, academic attainment or just being there to provide emotional support. It’s what makes our role in further education so rewarding.

“On behalf of all the staff at Loughborough College, I would like to congratulate every single one of our athletes for competing with such pride on the global stage.”
