Ten Loughborough College students have been selected for England’s Roses netball academy squad for the coming year.
They were selected for the final 36-person Roses squad after impressing selectors in a series of tough trials in August and September.
The students, who study on the College’s Diploma in Sporting Excellence (DiSE) programme, will join the squad at monthly camps, with the aim to be selected for Netball Europe U17 tournament in February 2022, as well as an U19 tour next summer.
Tom Boxall, Loughborough College’s Deputy Manager of Elite Sport, said: “This is brilliant news for our students and is a real testament to their talent and hard work.
“They are all fantastic ambassadors for Loughborough College and we’re extremely proud and privileged to be in a position to support their development, enabling them to strike a perfect balance between their sporting and academic growth.”
Roses Academy Head Coach, Sheonah Forbes, said: “I was very impressed by the energy, attitude and skillsets of all the athletes invited to our positional days and final selection weekend.
“It’s fantastic to have such a growing pool of up-and-coming talent in England, but it does make our job as selectors extremely difficult.
“I’m excited to work with the selected group of athletes, as well as their club coaches, and seeing them develop over the coming 12 months.”
