College Learners and Staff to Tackle Isle of Wight Ultra Challenge

Posted: 6th January 2023 - 1:17pm

Great challenges need great settings, and few come better than the Isle of Wight’s stunning coastal path.

A team of Loughborough College students and staff will join up with 2,000 other adventurers on the Isle of Wight in April 2023 to test their endurance levels and raise vital funds for PACE, the college’s chosen charity.

The walk will take participants along the spectacular southern cliffs, past the iconic Needles, and to historic Cowes at the halfway stop. Those taking on the Full Island Challenge will continue along the scenic pathway to historic Ventnor and back to base camp in the pretty village of Chale – completing an epic 106km journey.

Loughborough’s Team 1909, a nod to the year the college was founded, will be preparing for the 2023 Isle of Wight Ultra Challenge on behalf of PACE - ProActive Community Endeavours.

This locally-based charity aims to help people become fully integrated into the community by providing the facilities and resources to bring about positive change and enhance their general quality of life.

And to ensure everyone is ready for the challenge, each team member will complete 16 training walks to build up the main event.

''This is a fantastic opportunity to take us out of our comfort zones, a great way to stay fit and healthy, and provides an important mental health boost,” said College event coordinator Jesse Jackson.

“In addition to bringing the college community together, we will generate awareness and publicity for the excellent work PACE is doing for our local community.

“As a bonus incentive, everyone who finishes the walk gets a glass of ‘fizz’ to celebrate".

The next training walk is on Saturday, 7th January 2023. Those interested in participating should meet at Radmoor restaurant at 08.00am
