Two talented trainee mechanics have landed jobs in local garages without even finishing their Loughborough College course.
Aurel Vicol, 38, of Markfield, did work experience at Sandicliffe Motors of Loughborough who were so impressed they offered him a job. He works part time at the moment but will become a full-time employee when he finishes his qualification.
And Nathan Johnson, 22, of Coalville, secured a job at Listers Volkswagen in Loughborough where he works two days a week until he finishes his Level 3 qualification.
Aurel said: “This course started as a stepping stone for me towards a career change and indeed prompted me toward a job offer from the work experience provider. After working in a different industry, I finally took the chance to follow what I was dreaming to do when I was younger.
“The prestige of the Loughborough College course was an obvious choice, but more importantly the staff leading the course and their ties with industry, were essential in me getting a job offer.
“My main aim after graduation is to continue to learn and gain experience as much as possible and to build a career around the automotive industry. I envision myself to become an MOT tester and perhaps running my own business.
“The best advice I could give to other students is to accept the help of your tutors, as it is priceless. They have real life experience and they are more than willing to go above and beyond to share it with all the students. Be bold, ask questions and be passionate about it.”
Nathan said: “I am very proud of what I have achieved with securing a job within the industry as it proves to myself and others that it is possible. It also motivates me more to do well in college and push forward quicker.
“Loughborough College has been vital in helping me with getting a job as they have encouraged me and advised me to the best of their abilities.
“My advice to other students like me would be to listen to your teachers as they are trying to do what’s best for you and they are very knowledgeable and have ties to the industry themselves.”
Paul Tittcomb, a motor vehicle lecturer at Loughborough College, said: “We’re really proud of Aurel and Nathan. They’ve shown that it really pays off when you are determined to succeed, proactive and diligent.
“We wish them every success with the rest of their studies with us and in their future jobs.”
