Higher Education students have ranked their experience on degree level programmes at Loughborough College above the sector average in every single question asked in the latest National Student Survey (NSS).

Students were asked 27 questions around teaching, learning opportunities, assessment and feedback, academic support, resources, and student voice as part of the in-depth research by the Office for Students (OfS). Following last year’s outstanding results, Loughborough College has once again exceeded both the sector average and benchmark in all these areas.

Students praised the excellent teaching on their courses, scoring an impressive 95.2% compared to the sector average of 86.3%.

Corrie Harris, Principal and CEO at Loughborough College, said: “This is an incredible result for our Higher Education team, who work extremely hard to ensure our students have the best possible experience when studying a degree with us.”

The following scores combined to produce this theme:

  • 93% of students said they found their course intellectually stimulating
  • 98% said staff were easy to contact when needed
  • 96% said that staff were supportive of their learning
  • 91% said they have had the chance to explore ideas and concepts in depth

Chris Cockerton, Dean of Higher Education at Loughborough College, added: “These NSS results show just how hard our team work for a student-centred approach. We are thrilled to have been ranked so highly across all key areas, it is a true testament to the dedication of our Higher Education staff and support teams.

“We are especially proud of the positive feedback around our access to mental health and wellbeing services, which speaks highly of the work of the College’s dedicated Higher Education Welfare Co-ordinator, who supports students throughout their time with us.”

Other highlights from the survey show:

  • 97% satisfaction rate with academic support (against a sector average of 87%)
  • 93% satisfaction rate with assessment and feedback (against a sector average of 82%)
  • 94% feel the College has communicated information about mental health and wellbeing support well (against a sector average of 82%)

The NSS gives students the opportunity to rank their higher education provider at the end of their education journey. Every university in the UK takes part in the survey, as do many colleges, in what is one of the largest of its kind in the world with more than 339,000 responses across the UK this year.

Loughborough College’s Higher Education Centre offers a range of undergraduate programmes in, Sport, Engineering and Sustainable Engineering, Management, Public Services and Early Years Education.

Beginning in September, the College will also launch a collection of new programmes in Esports and Criminology and Psychology, responding to student and industry demand.

It’s not too late to get a degree at Loughborough College.
