Toby Howe is currently studying for a BEng in Sustainable Engineering awarded by Loughborough University. When considering his next steps, he initially set his sights on the HNC/HND engineering course at Loughborough University. However, things took an exciting turn when he got offered a place on the BEng Sustainable Engineering course instead.
Toby said, "The subject matter seemed incredibly relevant to the current state of the world, so I decided to accept the offer alongside some of my classmates who were also studying BTEC Engineering at the time.
The tutors are very invested in both the course and the students, and a healthy relationship has led to very effective teaching experiences. The tutors are supportive and encouraging.
"The course itself has been an enriching experience for me. The educational content is comprehensive, providing me with valuable skills applicable to the engineering workplace. The lectures are engaging and genuinely interesting, covering many topics that captivate me throughout the learning process.

"Speaking of support, the tutors go above and beyond to assist us with our work and projects. They are always available to provide advice and guidance, and each tutor has unique teaching methods, keeping the lectures fresh and engaging. Even when we need help outside of the college campus, contacting the tutors through Teams or email is effortless, and they respond promptly.
"Exciting plans are in place for a dedicated building that will cater to our course. As for the tools and equipment, the college provides us with many resources. From small electronics and display pieces to robots and workshop machinery, we can access various tools that aid our learning. We recently built a 3D printer, which has proven useful not only for our projects but also for other courses within the college. While we share the college library with other students on campus, certain facilities are exclusively reserved.
"Being a student at Loughborough College has presented me with fantastic opportunities. Throughout the course, we've had the privilege to travel abroad and explore engineering-based technologies from various parts of the world. From witnessing the geothermal power stations in Iceland to delving into the motor industry in Italy, these experiences have been eye-opening and have broadened my perspective. Additionally, in my second year, I had the chance to collaborate with students from other courses, such as sports and business. Together, we worked on a project to develop ideas and create concept products, which we later pitched at the young enterprise competitions. This even led us to us competing in Turkey, where we had the opportunity to enhance our business acumen and life skills.
"If someone were to ask me whether I recommend Loughborough College and the Beng Sustainable Engineering course, my answer would be a resounding yes. The knowledge and skills I gained from this course have made me a valuable individual in the job market, particularly within the rapidly advancing renewable and sustainable engineering field.
"Looking ahead to the future, given my family's background in the field, I have a personal interest in the electrical industry. I aspire to contribute to power generation and grid development. Moreover, I am passionate about finding solutions to environmental challenges, becoming an advisor to industries, and helping them adopt more sustainable practices to benefit our planet."
