Ryan Kirk | Construction Level 3 - T Level

Loughborough College offered Ryan the most suitable T-Level course to help him follow his dreams.

Having set his sights on working as an electrician, Ryan, 17, from Melton Mowbray, started his T-Level in Construction (Electrical Installations) Level 3 in September 2022.

The combination of classroom learning and real-life experience in the form of placement gives me the best chance to have a career within the electrical industry in the future. Plus, it fits my learning style

"The course is perfect for me because I am not only learning how to be an electrician but also how I can contribute to the construction industry," he said.

Now entering his second year of study, Ryan is looking forward to using the skills learnt on his industry placement. "My work placement took place after October half term in 2022, and I am excited about sharing what I’ve learnt.

"The combination of classroom learning and real-life experience in the form of placement gives me the best chance to have a career within the electrical industry in the future. Plus, it fits my learning style," Ryan said.

The support at Loughborough College has given Ryan a new-found confidence and inspired him to stay motivated. "The teaching staff are very helpful, approachable, and supportive. If anything is unclear to me, they take the time to explain it in a different way," he said.

Over the years, the College has made multi-million pound investments to enhance the learning experience for students, including the newly opened state-of-the-art T-Levels centre. Ryan is impressed with the facilities, sharing, "The campus is amazing, the classrooms are purpose-built for my course, and the College has a welcoming and relaxing atmosphere."

One of Ryan's most memorable experiences was visiting companies and seeing how they do things in the real world. He reflected, "Experiencing real industry work was an opportunity that you wouldn't get at secondary school."

Looking ahead, Ryan’s ultimate goal is to build a career in the construction industry as an electrician for ten years. Further in the future, he would like to start his own business.

Ryan encourages anyone considering a T-Level course to go for it, explaining, "The decision to study T-Levels at Loughborough College has changed my life for the better. My course has offered me more possibilities to grow my skills and knowledge than I could imagine. I would recommend T-Levels to anyone my age."
