With the incredible opportunity to practice life-saving skills and simulate the life of patients, choosing a T-Level in Healthcare was the perfect option for Radhika Raithatha.
The ambitious 18-year-old, from Leicester knew she wanted a career in healthcare. But it was only when she came to a Loughborough College applicant event that she learned about the combination of hands-on learning and classroom theory that a T-Level offers.
Having someone teaching you who has been there and done it in the profession they are now teaching definitely gives them more gravitas.
“It has everything I need for the career I want to go into,” said Radhika. “What T-Levels do that other courses don’t is show the clear career progression route. Most importantly for me, it offered a variety of modules and has a great balance of practical and theory. It suited my learning style in a totally different way to A-Levels.”
Radhika originally wanted to pursue a career in midwifery but her tutors, armed with real-world nursing experience, have influenced a slight change of trajectory into nursing.
“One of my tutors worked quite high up in the NHS as a nurse in hospitals and has told us so many brilliant stories that make nursing sound more varied than midwifery,” she added.
“Having someone teaching you who has been there and done it in the profession they are now teaching definitely gives them more gravitas.”
Before coming to Loughborough College, Radhika hadn’t heard of T-Levels, “I knew I wanted to come to Loughborough College because it had the right blend of programmes and courses I was interested in. But at the applicant event, I heard about T-Levels and I was drawn in!
Since enrolling in September 2021, she has enjoyed a massive range of practical experiences.
“The T-Level classroom was one of the biggest selling points. It’s set out like a hospital room with all the actual equipment. It simulates the real-world environment,” she said.
“In the last year, we’ve done everything - from injection workshops, glucose tests, and administering insulin shots, to health and safety training, hazard training, blood pressure testing, working with simulators, injection dummies and CPR dummies. That’s just first year. The second year is even more practical and so inspirational!”
