Level 2 Barbering student Corben Shaw chose Loughborough College after learning about the courses on offer. “Not only was it my local college, but I’d heard good things about the Barbering course, and I was inspired to join, and learn new skills.” Said Corben.
Corben’s love for barbering began at aged 14 when he took on a Saturday job at a local salon. Having set his sights on developing his knowledge, and growing a future in the industry, he joined the College, where his lecturer, Kerie Mooney says he: “found barbering running through his soul. When he joined us, he needed to find his way, and his passion shines out of him. His enthusiasm to learn is infectious, and thanks to his hard work, he aspires to be the best he can be.”
“My tutors want me to be the best version of myself”
Throughout his time studying in the Radmoor training salon, Corben has developed new skills and techniques that will support his future, but he credits his tutors, including Kerie for their constant support for his growth so far.
“They really believe in me, and they want me to be the best version of myself. If I feel like I can’t do something, and I want to give up, they encourage and push me to do it, because they know I can. They help me learn and practice new techniques to make me more confident in my skills.”
Beyond the salon chairs, Corben has thrived in the extra opportunities offered by the College, attending the Association of Hairdressers and Therapists (AHT) competition final in Blackpool last year.
Looking ahead, Corben is excited to launch his career in the industry. He shared: “I want to travel the world, expand my knowledge and technical skills. My dream is to own my own barbering studio.”
