Posted: 15th October 2023 - 11:15am

Learners Ivanna Bailador and Megan McLoughlin both graduated from Loughborough College with top up degrees in BA Hons. in Hospitality Management. Having overcome obstacles and the challenges of a work life balance, they were both rewarded for their hard work and determination by being named as winners of the Outstanding Academic Achievement and Student of the Year Awards respectively.

Ivanna commuted from London to Loughborough to complete her degree. She said: “I was looking for a Top Up course to expand my future career options and the Loughborough College website was really inviting. The course content was very attractive for where I wanted my career to go.”

Megan agreed, citing the importance of developing her knowledge to support her newly launched business, “This course has set me up so well for my next steps, and offered me so much knowledge and support. I have my own business, offering cakes and catering for weddings and celebrations. Everything I’ve learned at College has been invaluable to that growth.”

Both Ivanna and Megan were recognised for their hard work and ongoing dedication at the 2023 Graduation ceremony held at Loughborough Town Hall earlier this year. Earning the Outstanding Academic Achievement Award, Ivanna was nominated for “leaving an indelible mark throughout her consistently exceptional work.”

For Megan, who also presented the student reply speech during the ceremony, her Student of the Year recognition was awarded for her “consistent and unwavering commitment to study.”

Reflecting on the staff and support at Loughborough College, Ivanna credits tutors and lecturers for her success, adding, “The staff are amazing. So friendly and welcoming. I knew I’d made the right decision coming to Loughborough College.”

For Megan, her support system extended to her classmates; the friends she’s made during her course have been invaluable to her experience. “We pulled each other through, motivating each other. We got to know each other really well, I can honestly say we will always stay in touch.”

Looking to the future, Ivanna is excited to use her newly earned degree to build her career, sharing, “I’ve just started a new job with a tourism operator. I wouldn’t be here without the support of the staff and tutors. I would really encourage students to consider Loughborough College.”

As for Megan, her catering business continues to grow, thanks to her qualifications, “I would 100% recommend Loughborough College. The lecturers go above and beyond to answer all my questions, and they have offered me all the support I could need.”
