Public Service Students Inspired at Security Institute Event Attended by Princess Royal
Thursday 3rd July 2025

A group of Loughborough College Public Service students recently took part in an exciting young persons skill-building day hosted by The Security Institute at Topstones Girlguiding Centre near Leicester.
The event, designed to equip young people with valuable insights into security and public service careers, attracted students and professionals from across the region. Participants engaged in a series of practical activities and interactive workshops focused on building key skills such as leadership, risk assessment, communication, and teamwork.
Throughout the day, students took part in simulated security scenarios, problem-solving challenges, and physical team exercises, all designed to reflect real-life situations encountered in public service and security roles.
They also had the chance to network with industry experts from local emergency services such as Leicestershire Fire & Rescue and Leicestershire Police and learn about pathways into careers in policing, the armed forces, and the wider security sector. St John's Ambulance cadets also attended the event to offer further inspiration and interactive engagement.
A highlight of the day was the attendance of the Institute’s Patron, HRH The Princess Royal. Her Royal Highness spent time meeting with students and staff, speaking with learners about their studies at Loughborough College and their aspirations for the future.
Curriculum Manager for Public Services at Loughborough College, Tim Turner said: “It was an incredible opportunity for our students not only to build their skills but also to discuss their ambitions with HRH The Princess Royal. It was a privilege to be invited to the event, and I know all of our learners left feeling inspired and motivated.”
Students left the event with aspirations to pursue their chosen pathways in public service and security, equipped with new skills and valuable connections.
